This notice explains what personal information Golden Oriental collects when you order from us or use our website, why we need it, and the choices and rights you have. We keep it simple: we only collect what we need to make and deliver your food and to run the business.
1. Who we are
Golden Oriental is a Chinese, Malaysian and Thai takeaway at 146 Gloucester Rd N, Filton, Bristol BS34 7BQ. We are the “controller” of the personal information described here, which means we decide how it’s used and are responsible for looking after it under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
You can contact us about anything in this notice by emailing [email protected], calling 0117 969 68 88 or writing to us at the address above.
2. When you order from us
What we collect
- Your name and phone number, so we can confirm your order and contact you if there’s a problem.
- Your address, if you ask for delivery.
- What you order, including any special requests.
- Allergy or dietary information, if you tell us about it. Information about allergies can count as health information, so we only use it to prepare your food safely and don’t keep it once your order is complete.
- Payment: we take cash and card. If you pay by card, the payment is handled by our card payment provider; we don’t see or store your full card details.
Why we use it and our lawful basis
- To take, prepare, deliver and get paid for your order: this is necessary to carry out our contract with you.
- To handle allergy information safely: with your explicit consent, which you give by telling us, and to meet our food safety obligations.
- To keep business and tax records: because the law requires us to.
- To deal with complaints, refunds and disputes: our legitimate interest in running the business and resolving problems.
We don’t use your order details for marketing, and we never sell your information.
3. When you use our website
You can read our menu and opening hours without telling us anything about yourself. The website has no accounts and no online ordering.
Information sent automatically
Like all websites, our web server receives basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type and the page you asked for. Our hosting provider keeps this in short-lived server logs so the site can be kept secure and working. Our legitimate interest is keeping the website safe and available.
Cookies and your choices
We only use cookies that aren’t essential if you agree to them in our cookie banner. Our cookie policy lists every cookie we use. You can change your choices at any time:
Google Analytics
If you allow analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics to understand how people use the website, for example which pages are popular, what people search for on the menu, and how many people tap to call us. Google collects information such as your device type, approximate location (from your IP address), the pages you visit and how you found us. We use this only in aggregate to improve the website; it doesn’t tell us who you are. Our lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time from the cookie settings.
Your list of dishes
If you add dishes to a list, the list is stored in your own browser so it’s there when you come back. If you choose Save & get a link, we store the list on our server under a random link so you can share it or return to it. A saved list contains only the dishes and quantities – nothing that identifies you – and anyone with the link can view and change it. To stop the same person creating huge numbers of lists, we keep a scrambled, one-way code made from your IP address alongside a list for the first hour. Saved lists are deleted automatically 12 months after they were last used. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in providing a feature you asked to use.
Google Maps
The map on our homepage is provided by Google. It only loads if you choose to show it, and Google may then collect information about your visit under its own privacy policy.
4. Who we share it with
We only share your information when we need to:
- Our card payment provider, to process card payments.
- Our website hosting provider, which stores the website and its server logs for us.
- Google, for website analytics, only if you’ve agreed to it.
- Our accountants, professional advisers, HMRC, the police or other authorities where the law requires it or to protect our legal rights.
These organisations may only use your information for the purpose we give them. Some of them, such as Google, may process data outside the UK; where they do, they use legally approved safeguards, such as the UK’s data adequacy regulations (including the UK–US data bridge) or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement.
5. How long we keep it
- Order details (name, phone, address, order): only as long as needed to complete your order and deal with any questions about it, normally no more than a few weeks.
- Allergy information: only for the order it relates to.
- Payment and accounting records: six years after the end of the financial year, as required by tax law.
- Google Analytics data: kept by Google for up to 14 months, then deleted automatically.
- Your cookie choices: six months, after which we ask again.
- Saved lists of dishes: 12 months after the list was last used.
6. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct information that’s wrong or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your information, or to stop or limit how we use it;
- object to us using your information on the basis of our legitimate interests;
- ask for information you gave us to be passed to you or someone else in a reusable format;
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on it (for example in the cookie settings). This doesn’t affect anything we did before you withdrew it.
To use any of these rights, contact us using the details below. It’s free, and we’ll reply within one month. We may need to ask you to confirm who you are first.
7. Contact us or complain
If you have a question or concern about how we use your information, please talk to us first:
- Golden Oriental, 146 Gloucester Rd N, Filton, Bristol BS34 7BQ
- Phone: 0117 969 68 88

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or 0303 123 1113.
